We are now happy to expand the family tradition of hospitality on Gili Trawangan.
”Gili” means little island in the local Sasak dialect.
Half an hour from the northwest coast of Lombok by an outrigger boat are 3 coral fringed Gilis with white sand beaches and beautiful clear water. This is a place to enjoy simpler island life. Located on the quiet northern shore of Trawangan, some of the islands best snorkeling and diving is found directly off Alam Gili – an intimate oasis with 7 accomodations.

The absence of cars and motorbikes have made the Gili islands a very pleasant getaway. Transport around the island is either by horse drawn carriages called cidomo, by bicycle or on foot...
A walk around the whole island takes a few hours slowing to a calm pace away from the modern world hearing the surf of the sea or the tinkling of cidomo bells.

From the beach in front of Alam Gili, the sun rises over Lombok’s Mt. Rinjani and sets behind Bali’s Mt. Agung.
A little salt-water jungle pool invites you to cool off after a day in the sun.
And under the shade of a tamarind tree, you can now enjoy the food of Café Wayan while feeling gentle sea breezes at Alam Gili.

Cozy and comfy- (4.5 x 4 m) 3 rooms have double bed, and 2 have twins.
Lovely open-air bathrooms. Set back in the garden, you can also see the sea from the verandas.

1 Sea View Room called "Duyung" (The Mermaid Room)

This room has private use of a very spacious pavilion where you can lounge all day looking out to the sea and the stars at night.
Family or friends booking more than 1 room may wish to include this room to share the pavilion space for meals and gatherings.
The bedroom (3 x 4 m) has 1 double bed.
The day mattress on the pavilion may be made up for those wishing to sleep out there.
The bathroom is smaller than in other rooms, but offers a view of sunrise and the stars at night!

	Rooms have fresh hot and cold water showers and ceiling fan.
	Electricity is supplied by the island generator 24 hours however power black outs can occur.
	Voltage is 220v with outlets for round size plug. Best bring any voltage or plug adaptors required along with you.
	Laundry service is available. We send laundry to mainland Lombok so allow 2 days.
	Small mini markets in Trawangan town are available for your basic needs.
	A health care center is also on the island.
	Phone and internet connections are available but lines can be slow.
	PADI dive operators on the island offer a variety of courses and dive trips for certified divers. See more below.
	Glass bottom boat, fishing and horse riding activities can also be arranged.
	Enjoy our little salt-water jungle pool after time in the sun. Traditional massage and aromatherapy treatments also available.

Getting to Gili Trawangan:

By air to Mataram Selaparang airport on Lombok:
-Daily flights operate from Bali. Flight time is 25 minutes.
Approx air fare from Bali to Mataram: Rp 391.000 - (USD 44) one way.
-Direct air service is also available from Jakarta and Surabaya.
-Silk Air, the regional airline of Singapore Airlines, flies nonstop from Singapore 3 times weekly.
-Visa on arrival facility is available at Mataram airport.

Travelers can make their own way to Bangsal- approx one hour drive from the airport.
Public boats depart from Bangsal for the Gilis regularly once they are filled.
Vendors at Bangsal can be a challenge, so for convenience, we recommend a private transfer.

Private transfers arranged by Alam Gili:
Drive to Teluk Nara- a quieter bay south of Bangsal, with no hassles.
Our own outrigger boat will bring you directly to Alam Gili.
If low tide, the boat will land in front of Café Wayan on the east shore of the island where the staff
will assist with luggage and transport by cidomo to Alam Gili.

Cost of private transfer from Mataram airport :
USD 40.00 for 1-2 persons one-way including private car and the boat.
USD 20.00 for additional person. No charge for child under 12 years.
The drive to/from Teluk Nara can be taken via the mountain road, or a little longer but very scenic drive, along the coast.

Teluk Nara

Café Wayan on Lombok is located at Batubolong- the bay just south of Senggigi beach.
Our staff can also assist from there.
You can also enjoy a nice lunch, coffee, tea and cakes at Café Wayan Batubolong enroute.
Feel free to store any large bags not needed on the island at Café Wayan Batubolong.

By boat from Bali:
*Perama Tourist service operates a 40 passenger schooner from Padang Bai in East Bali directly to Gili Trawangan. Backpackers mostly use this service.
Departure from Padang Bai is at 1pm. Cruising time is 5-6 hours and includes a meal. Cost is approx Rp 240.000 one way.
The Perama boat will land you at the harbour of Gili Trawangan. From the harbour, turn right and Café Wayan is about 200 meters walking. If we know your arrival by Perama we can also meet you at the harbour and assist you to Alam Gili by cidomo.
The return trip to Padang Bai departs early morning from Senggigi Beach on Lombok, so you will need to make your way to Sengiggi very early from Gili.
Confirm the information once you are in Bali.

*A local car ferry also operates from Padang Bai to Lembar Harbour on Lombok which is approx an hour south of Senggigi.
-Some new fast boat services operate to the Gilis from Benoa harbour in Bali, but they are small boats taking 8-15 passengers.

The Lombok Strait and the Wallace Line
Crossing the Lombok strait is very scenic with the dramatic backdrop of Bali’s Mt. Agung.
However, the seas can be very choppy here. This 24km narrow and deep strait separating Bali and Lombok is a biological boundary between Asia and Australasia, known as The Wallace Line. Alfred Russel Wallace conducted research from 1854-1862 for his book The Malay Archipelago and developed his own theory of evolution by natural distribution recognizing a pattern of differences between island fauna across Indonesia.
Good sea currents of course also keep marine life healthy! Indonesia has 3500 species of fish- more than anywhere else in the world. The drop-offs and plateaus off the Gilis provide a great insight to the marine life of Indonesia.
